ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDING AND INDUSTRY

Scope: Our team successfully completed a remarkable project on “Energy Efficiency in Building and Industry” for GGGI, Mongolia. During the duration of 2017-2018, we undertook various tasks and achieved significant milestones.
Portfolio Highlights:
- Market Assessment: We conducted a comprehensive assessment in the sub-urban area of Ulaanbaatar to explore alternative heating solutions. Our research focused on identifying viable fuel options to substitute coal, evaluating electric heating systems, renewable energy sources, and enhancing the thermal insulation of existing houses.
- Energy Efficiency Measures: Our team developed and implemented innovative energy efficiency measures for both public service and industrial entities. We introduced cutting-edge technologies such as VFD drivers, LED lighting solutions, efficient pumps, fans, and various other electricity and heat-saving mechanisms to maximize energy efficiency.
- Economic Feasibility Analysis: To ensure the practicality and viability of our energy efficiency solutions, we conducted a thorough economic feasibility analysis. Our evaluation examined the potential cost savings and economic benefits of adopting new technologies for improving living conditions and enhancing energy efficiency in large entities.
- GHG Reduction Estimation: Through our expertise, we accurately estimated the reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions resulting from the implementation of energy-efficient technologies. Our findings underscored the positive environmental impact and sustainability benefits associated with these energy-saving measures.
GREEN CITY ACTION PLAN FOR ULAANBAATAR
Client: Institute of National Strategy NGO (European Bank of Reconstruction and Development EBRD's Green Cities Project)
Duration: 2018-2019
Scope: Our team undertook a comprehensive project titled “Green City Action Plan for Ulaanbaatar,” in collaboration with the Institute of National Strategy NGO, as part of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development’s Green Cities Project.
Project Highlights:
- Environmental Challenges Assessment: We conducted a thorough assessment to identify and prioritize the environmental challenges faced by Ulaanbaatar. Our analysis focused on key areas such as building energy efficiency, electricity and heat distribution network, water supply, public transportation, creation of green spaces, and the utilization of renewable energy.
- Action Plan Development: Based on our assessment, we developed a comprehensive action plan to address these challenges. The plan included 14 strategic actions aimed at implementing policy interventions and sustainable infrastructure investments. Our primary focus was on improving building energy efficiency, enhancing the electricity and heat distribution network, optimizing water supply systems, improving public transportation, creating green spaces, and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
We are proud to have played a crucial role in formulating a Green City Action Plan for Ulaanbaatar, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental preservation.
Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Project (AHURP)
Client: Green Climate Fund Duration: 2020-2021
Scope: Our team had the privilege of working on the groundbreaking Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Project (AHURP). This transformative initiative, approved by the prestigious Board of the Green Climate Fund, aimed to revolutionize urban living in Ulaanbaatar by integrating affordable housing and resilient urban development.
Project Highlights:
- Affordable Housing Solutions: We focused on developing affordable housing solutions that prioritize sustainability and energy efficiency. Our team incorporated innovative design practices, environmentally friendly materials, and renewable energy technologies to create housing units that are both affordable and environmentally responsible.
- Resilient Urban Renewal: Our project emphasized the renewal and enhancement of urban spaces to withstand climate-related challenges. We implemented resilient infrastructure, green spaces, and sustainable urban planning strategies to improve the city’s adaptability to climate change impacts.
- Green Climate Fund Approval: The endorsement of the Green Climate Fund Board demonstrates the project’s alignment with global climate goals and the recognition of its potential for significant environmental and social impact.
- Collaboration with Green Climate Fund: Leveraging our collaboration with the Green Climate Fund, we harnessed their expertise and financial support to ensure the successful implementation of sustainable urban development initiatives.

GREEN HOUSE GAS INVENTORY FOR INDUSTRIAL SECTOR
Client: Institute of National Strategy NGO (European Bank of Reconstruction and Development EBRD's Green Cities Project) and GGGI Mongolia (Project to update Intended Nationally Determined Contribution of Mongolia to UNFCCC Secretariat) Duration: 2018-2019
Scope: Our team embarked on a notable endeavor called the “Greenhouse Gas Inventory for Industrial Sector” project, working closely with the Institute of National Strategy NGO and GGGI Mongolia. This project was dedicated to revising and enhancing Mongolia’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution to the UNFCCC Secretariat.
Project Highlights:
- Estimation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: We conducted a comprehensive estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from the Industrial Process and Product Use sector. Our analysis covered emissions of CO2, methane, non-methane volatile organic compounds, and hydrofluorocarbons. This provided a comprehensive understanding of the current emissions profile in the industrial sector.
- Baseline Scenario Development for 2030: To project future emissions, we developed a baseline scenario for the year 2030. This scenario served as a reference point for assessing the effectiveness of GHG reduction measures and setting targets for emission reductions.
- Proposal of GHG Reduction Measures: Based on our analysis, we proposed a range of GHG reduction measures tailored to the industrial sector. These measures included the recovery of waste heat from cement plants, utilization of fly ash in cement manufacturing, extraction and utilization of Coal Mine Methane, and implementation of Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) technologies. We also estimated the expected results of these measures in terms of GHG emissions reduction.
Our project played a crucial role in assessing and addressing greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial sector. By proposing targeted GHG reduction measures, we aimed to contribute to Mongolia’s commitment to sustainable development and combatting climate change.
